A foreign suspect is facing a slew of charges after being arrested near the northern border for driving a Canadian tractor-trailer that was stolen.
Michigan State Police (MSP) has released information about the bust, which unfolded at around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 in Chippewa County, MI.
An MSP Motor Carrier Officer (MCO) on patrol near the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge pulled over an 18-wheeler for commercial vehicle violations.
The officer discovered the semi-truck had been reported stolen out of Ontario, Canada, and also determined its Vehicle Identification Number had been altered “in an apparent attempt to conceal its identity,” MSP says.
The driver was identified as Yuvraj Singh, a 24-year-old resident of Brampton, Ontario.
Singh was taken into custody and the tractor-trailer was seized and impounded.

On Monday, Singh was arraigned on the following charges:
- Receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle
- Motor vehicle fraud – concealing or misrepresenting identity of motor vehicle with intent
- Invalid license plate under International Registration Plan
Singh was granted a “personal recognizance bond with conditions including he must surrender his passport, he must not leave the county or state, that he be monitored by a GPS tether, as well as additional standard conditions,” MSP explained.
