Federal immigration authorities say they apprehended an illegal alien convicted of heinous child sex crimes in the sanctuary state of Massachusetts.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Boston just announced the arrest Diony Edith Ramirez Patino, a citizen of Colombia.
Ramirez Patino was convicted for statutory aggravated rape of a child and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and sentenced to 10 years incarceration.
However, an Appeals Court vacated her criminal conviction and she was released from prison.
“Suffolk Superior Court did not honor the ICE detainer due to the ‘Protect Act,’ and Patino walked free,” ICE revealed on Friday.
Ramirez Patino could be retried for her crimes but remains in federal custody at this time.
In August, Massachusetts became a de facto ‘super-sanctuary’ for illegal aliens when Gov. Maura Healey (D) signed the PROTECT Act, which severely restricts cooperation with federal immigration agencies.
The newly-enacted law forbids state and local law enforcement agencies from asking subjects in custody about their immigration status, facilitating prisoner transfers, or sharing information — including dates of release — with ICE.
