A federal agent was injured and several vehicles damaged by a criminal illegal alien attempting to evade arrest in California this week.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released information about the harrowing incident, which unfolded on Monday in the San Diego area.
ICE San Diego, working alongside federal partners, conducted a vehicle stop during an immigration enforcement operation.
The driver of the sedan, an illegal alien from Mexico, tried to escape, crashing into two government vehicles before being taken into custody.
A federal immigration officer suffered unspecified injuries during the fracas.
The Mexican, who has a DUI conviction on his record, was removed from the U.S. twice after being smuggled into the U.S. in the trunks of vehicles crossing through the San Ysidro Port of Entry in October of 2020.
“The arrest of this individual for assaulting ICE officers underscores our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the safety of law enforcement personnel and holding offenders accountable,” said Homeland Security Investigations San Diego Special Agent in Charge Shawn Gibson.
“We will not tolerate violence against law enforcement, and we are resolute in our pursuit of justice.”
Assaults on federal immigration agents are up 1,000% over last year, DHS says.
Illegal aliens and radical leftists have become increasingly brazen in their resistance to immigration law enforcement.
