Federal immigration authorities are seeking custody of rideshare driver who was arrested for allegedly sodomizing a female passenger at gunpoint in Kentucky.
The horrifying attack unfolded in Louisville on Feb. 4, but details about the case just came to light.
A local medical office requested a patient be picked up at her home by a Lyft driver, according to arrest documents reviewed by WDRB.
The vehicle arrived, but when the woman got into the vehicle, the driver reportedly opened his glove box to show her a firearm inside and then drove her to a church parking lot.
“He got into the back seat with a gun and forced her to perform a sex act and she could not get away,” stated the victim’s attorney, Sara Collins.
The suspect then dropped the woman off at the medical office, where she ran in screaming for assistance.
The next day, police arrested 34-year-old Yordan Diaz Vera in a Kroger parking lot.
Diaz Vera was charged with first-degree sodomy, kidnapping, and menacing, and ordered held on $100,000 cash bond.
Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against Diaz Vera, indicating he may be in the U.S. illegally.
“He’s originally from Cuba, he’s here on a work permit,” Collins said.
