The driver of an 18-wheeler that struck and killed a pedestrian in Mississippi days ago is an illegal alien from India, federal authorities have confirmed with Border Hawk.
The deadly collision unfolded just after 1:30 p.m. on Thursday in Hinds County, local media reports.
Dedric Garrett, 36, exited his vehicle on Interstate 20 and was subsequently hit by a Freightliner tractor-trailer, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP).
Garrett was pronounced deceased at the scene.
MHP identified the driver of the big rig as Sube Singh, a 26-year-old resident of Fresno, California.
Singh was not injured in the crash and it remains unclear if he is expected to face charges.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has informed us that Singh is a citizen of India who is in the U.S. illegally.
“Border Patrol encountered Singh on November 19, 2017. He was released from ICE custody on bond on May 10, 2018, and is enrolled in an alternative to detention with a GPS monitor,” DHS explained in a statement.
“It is incredibly dangerous for illegal aliens, who often don’t know our traffic laws or even English, to be operating vehicles on America’s roads. DHS is aggressively working with its interagency partners to get illegal alien commercial drivers off the road.”
