A previously-deported illegal alien from Mexico is facing a slew of charges following a drunk-driving crash that killed a newly-engaged man and left his fiancée fighting for her life in Ohio last weekend, authorities say.

The horrific tragedy unfolded at around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday evening in Fairfield County, WBNS reports.

A vehicle driven by Alvaro Uribe-Gonzalez, 33, was traveling eastbound on Route 33 when he drifted into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into a car driven by 23-year-old Cameron Lyon, Ohio State Highway Patrol says.

Lyon was pronounced deceased after being transported to a local hospital.

His passenger, 23-year-old Abrielle Kerns, suffered unspecified serious injuries and remains in ICU, according to the latest available updates.

Uribe-Gonzalez was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

Uribe-Gonazalez was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol after illegally crossing the southern border into Texas in January 2020, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told Border Hawk.

He was issued a final order of removal and deported in April 2020.

The Mexican then illegally reentered the U.S. at an unknown location and date.

“This illegal alien has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol after allegedly causing a car crash that killed 23-year-old Cameron Lyon in Ohio,” stated DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin.

“Cameron had his whole life ahead of him, and that life was stolen by this criminal who never should have been in our country in the first place. ICE has lodged a detainer asking officials in Ohio to cooperate with us and not release him from jail, so that we can remove him from this country.”

Cameron Lyon and Abrielle Kerns were both residents of Ohio who reportedly became engaged in July during a family trip to Rhode Island.

Lyon, an Eagle Scout who had just started his first job as a social studies teacher, was in the process of renovating his family’s farmhouse with his fiancée.

A fundraiser has been established to aid the Kerns family with medical bills and other expenses.
