A group of suspects are being held on immigration detainers after being arrested for viciously robbing a man at a shopping mall in South Florida, according to authorities.

The disturbing incident unfolded on Thursday evening in Miami-Dade County.

The victim was shopping at Dolphin Mall in Sweetwater when he was ambushed by two men who stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from him then fled the scene, Local 10 News reports.

The suspects reportedly sped off in a 2025 BMW X6 with two more accomplices inside.

The thieves then pawned the stolen jewelry for $3,000 before they were pulled over by police who found more jewelry in the vehicle and nearly $32,000 cash.

The suspects were identified and charged as follows:

  • Jairo Javier Ramon Morales Cotal, 21. Strong-arm robbery, battery, dealing stolen property. $15,000 bond.
  • Jacob Jorkaef Ricardo Morales Cotal, 26. Strong-arm robbery. $7,500 bond.
  • Cherry Yuyunis Gomez Valenzuela, 28. Accessory after the fact. $1,000 bond.
  • Bastian Alexander Rojas Muñoz, 25. Dealing in stolen property, accessory after the fact. $2,000 bond.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed with Border Hawk that detainers have been lodged against all four suspects, indicating they may be in the U.S. illegally.

“Zero tolerance for anybody that thinks they’re going to come into this mall and commit a crime, my officers are ready,” Sweetwater Police Chief Sergio Diez stated during a press conference on Friday.

Diez announced that more officers will be on patrol at Dolphin Mall for the holiday season.
