An illegal alien from Guatemala was shot dead after he pointed a gun at officers in Georgia, authorities say.

The harrowing incident unfolded just after 10:30 p.m. on Monday night in Marietta.

Cobb County Police Department officers responded to reports of possible shots fired at a residence and quickly established a perimeter, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

A man identified as Hermelindo Estuardo Morente Tista, 27, exited the house while brandishing a firearm.

Officers repeatedly ordered Morente Tista to drop the weapon, but he refused to comply.

After Morente Tista pointed the gun at officers, they opened fire, killing him, GBI says.

Authorities learned that Morente Tista was a Guatemalan national under an active order of removal.

Local media interviewed Morente Tista’s brother at the scene, but he could only communicate in Spanish through an interpreter.

GBI is leading an ongoing investigation.

Hours before the incident, another Guatemalan illegal alien was arrested for killing an American citizen while he was fleeing from Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Savannah, Georgia.
