A Honduran male charged with attempted murder after a stabbing at a residence in Montana this week is in the U.S. illegally, federal authorities have confirmed.

The gruesome incident unfolded at around 2 a.m. on Monday in Bozeman.

Nerlin Noel Martinez Amador, 28, was preparing food at home when his roommate entered the kitchen and asked why he was cooking so late, according to court documents reviewed by the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.

Martinez Amador lunged at the man with a knife, slashing him across the chest and arm, the victim later told officers.

The victim was taken by a friend to a local hospital where he was treated for “significant” injuries.

Hospital staff alerted the Bozeman Police Department and officers were dispatched to the victim’s residence to investigate.

There they observed blood on the floor and spotted a man identified as Martinez Amador hiding in a bedroom.

Martinez Amador and another roommate scrambled to barricade themselves inside the room and a SWAT team was mobilized during an ensuing standoff.

Martinez Amador was eventually taken into custody and charged with deliberate attempted homicide.

“On September 7, ICE placed a detainer for Nerlin Noel Martinez Amador, a criminal illegal alien from Honduras, with Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office in Bozeman, Montana, following his arrest for deliberate attempted homicide. Martinez Amador illegally entered the country at an unknown time and place,” the Department of Homeland Security explained in a statement to Border Hawk.

Martinez Amador is being held without bond in the Gallatin County Detention Center.
