Federal authorities apprehended an illegal alien from India who was arrested following a hit-and-run collision that left a 4-year-old pedestrian in critical condition in California.

The shocking incident unfolded at around 8 p.m. on April 28 in Fresno.

A young boy playing at home on a swing set managed to exit the yard through a gate and wandered into a nearby roadway, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Several drivers stopped to avoid hitting the child, but another motorist swerved into a bike lane in an attempt to bypass traffic and ultimately struck the victim.

The at-fault driver stopped briefly then sped away, authorities say.

The boy was hospitalized in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive, according to the latest available updates.

Police tracked down 31-year-old Aman Kumar and arrested him the following morning.

He was charged with hit and run resulting in injury and subsequently released on bail from Fresno County Jail.

On Thursday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the capture of Kumar, who is in the U.S. illegally.

“ICE San Francisco arrested illegal alien Aman Kumar, 31, of India. Fresno PD arrested him for a hit-and-run causing critical injuries to a 4-year-old and he was RELEASED on bond,” ERO San Francisco explained in a statement.

“ICE did what FPD couldn’t and put him back behind bars, he now faces immigration proceedings.”
