A suspect arrested for shooting National Guard soldiers in Washington, D.C. has been identified as an illegal alien from Afghanistan who entered the U.S. following Joe Biden’s disastrous military withdrawal in 2021.
Two West Virginia National Guardsmen on a high-visibility patrol in the nation’s capital were ambushed by a gunman in a “targeted attack” near the White House at around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect, who was also seriously injured, was reportedly uncooperative with authorities, but law enforcement has revealed that he was one of tens of thousands of Afghan nationals brought into the U.S. under “Operation Allies Welcome.”

Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, “entered the U.S. legally in 2021 under humanitarian parole as part of the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Welcome in the aftermath of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. His permission to be in the U.S. expired in September of this year, and he is now in the country illegally,” Fox News reports, citing multiple sources close to the investigation.
Lakanwal yelled “Allahu akbar” while discharging a revolver before another Guardsman stabbed him several times with a pocket knife, sources tell Julio Rosas.
Another Guardsman reportedly shot the suspect, as well.
