An illegal alien suspected of rape was permanently neutralized after he opened fire on sheriff’s deputies serving a warrant in Alabama this week.

The harrowing incident unfolded at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Loachapoka, a town of just 160 residents.

After a Loachapoka High School student resource officer was alerted by a female victim that she had suffered repeated sexual abuse at the hands of her boyfriend, Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) deputies attempted to serve a warrant for first-degree rape at a local residence.

The suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Wilder Cobon Gomez, fired several shots at deputies, striking one in the arm.

Authorities returned fire, killing Gomez.

A 3-year-old child who was present in the home was not injured, according to Sheriff Jay Jones.

An Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) spokesperson has confirmed with 1819 News that Gomez was a Guatemalan national who was illegally present in the U.S.

“We appreciate everyone who has contacted us in regard to the status of the deputy who was shot in the line of duty yesterday evening. We are happy to report that he is out of surgery and recovering,” LCSO announced on social media.
