An illegal alien with a disturbing deportation history and criminal background has been arrested weeks after a vehicle assault on a federal immigration officer in California, authorities say.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) just announced the apprehension of Jesus Israel Garcia-Cobarruvias, a Mexican national who has been removed from the U.S. on three prior occasions.
On Aug. 31, Garcia-Cobarruvias allegedly accelerated his vehicle toward Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, striking one and damaging a government vehicle in Martinez, a city in Contra Costa County.
The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries but still cannot walk without assistance, DHS says.
Garcia-Cobarruvias remained on the loose until Sept. 17 when ICE officers tracked him down again in Martinez.
The Mexican refused to obey commands and was removed from his vehicle by force and taken into custody.
Garcia-Cobarruvias has a lengthy rap sheet that includes convictions for burglary, obstruction, and domestic violence.
“This criminal illegal alien represents the worst of the worst that the hardworking men and women of ICE are targeting and removing from our communities every single day,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin.
“This Department will not tolerate violent assaults on our brave law enforcement officers who keep us safe. DHS will hunt down and bring to justice anyone who engages in this dangerous behavior.”
