For decades, various local and state governments in the United States have encouraged and enabled illegal immigration, declaring some sort of “sanctuary status” in their jurisdictions to protect illegal aliens from being deported.
What repercussions have these local and state leaders received for this?
They don’t receive any.
The government won’t even withhold funds from these jurisdictions which openly defy the feds while aiding and abetting foreign lawbreakers.
According to 8 U.S. Code § 1324, it’s a crime to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection an illegal alien, but when’s the last time that law was enforced?
However, President-elect Donald Trump has upped the ante, pledging mass deportations after taking office on January 20. Trump and future Border Czar Tom Homan better hit the ground running and do what they’ve promised. (See my previous article Mass Deportation: Justifiable, Humane, Doable).
On the other side, Trump’s campaign pledge has emboldened state and local leaders to announce they are not going to participate.
Here are three examples:
1. Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs Says ‘No Deportations on My Watch’
Arizona is right on the border so it’s a key state in the protection of our nation.
Nevertheless, Gov. Hobbs doesn’t think illegals should be deported.
An ABC reporter asked Gov. Hobbs, “Would you as governor allow state police and National Guard to carry out mass deportations?”
The governor’s reply: “We will not be participating in misguided efforts that harm our communities, and I’ve been incredibly clear about that.”
NEW—Arizona’s Governor Katie Hobbs declares she will not allow the Trump administration to deport illegal immigrants in Arizona.
Reminder: Arizona just delivered President Trump a resounding victory because Democrats like Katie Hobbs refuse to secure the border.

Have you noticed how, in recent years, when politicians use the word “community,” they are often up to something?
How about the American community, Gov. Hobbs?
2. Los Angeles Continues Tradition of Sabotaging Immigration Enforcement
On Nov. 8, before being sworn in as chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Jim McDonnell whined that the “national election has caused many Angelenos to feel a deep, deep fear, especially in the immigrant community.”
Hey, there’s that word “community” again.
By “immigrant community” McDonnell means ‘a random group of illegal aliens and their hangers-on.’
McDonnell is on their side and not the American people’s.
“I have met with members of the community [!] and heard that fear,” McDonnell said.
“I want to be unequivocally clear here in my opening comments. LAPD will protect our immigrant community…”
Here’s what the LAPD is not doing:
“LAPD officers will not take action to determine a person’s immigration status, and will not arrest someone for their status, and LAPD will not assist with mass deportations.”
OK, Chief, it can be done without you!
3. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston Vows “Tiananmen Square” Resistance
Now here’s a real doozy.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston was asked, “What if Trump asks Denver police to participate in immigration enforcement?”
Mayor Johnston’s reply: “Absolutely not. We won’t do it.”
“I do not believe that our governor is going to let them use our [Colorado] National Guard at the state level. Unless they were planning on bringing national guards mobilized from Texas or Alabama to come invade Colorado, I don’t know where they would find the forces to begin to do that.”
On the contrary, it’s the illegals who have invaded Colorado. National Guard troops would be removing the invaders.
Mayor Johnston has a kooky idea:
“More than us having DPD stationed at the county line to keep them out, you would have 50,000 Denverites there. It’s like the Tiananmen Square moment with the rose and the gun, right? You’d have every one of those Highland moms who came out for the migrants. And you do not want to mess with them.”
Conclusion
When President Trump and Border Czar Homan begin their much-needed mass deportation, we can expect plenty of resistance from local and state leaders, negative court decisions, media propaganda, and meddling from Mexican diplomats.
The administration, however, needs to overcome all this obstruction and plow ahead with mass deportation.
If the Trump admin shows resolve and demonstrates that it means business, opposition to deportation will be defeated.
