A twice-deported criminal illegal alien accused of crashing a tractor-trailer into a school bus on a busy Washington highway is back on the loose after authorities in the sanctuary state ignored a federal detainer request and set him free.
As we previously reported, Juan Hernandez-Santos lost control of the car hauler he was driving, rear-ended a school bus that had slowed for traffic, and triggered a pileup involving six other vehicles on Interstate 5 in Thurston County on Dec. 4.
Four people were reportedly hospitalized with minor injuries, but thankfully, there were no children on the bus at the time.
Hernandez-Santos, a 40-year-old citizen of Mexico, was arrested and charged for operating a commercial vehicle without a license.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer against the Mexican, but he was released from Thurston County Jail the following day on personal recognizance.
Looks like the cause of this collision is “speeds too fast for conditions” which caused the semi truck to lose control and jack knife. 6 additional cars are involved and a school bus.
This only resulted in minor injuries. Crews are working to open up more lanes. https://t.co/F2927f9bBD

On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released Hernandez-Santos’ significant criminal and deportation history, which spans more than two decades.
In early 2005, Hernandez-Santos was removed back to Mexico by U.S. Border Patrol.
He reentered the country and was again deported in 2006, before entering the U.S. a third time at an unknown location and date.
In 2008, he was arrested for driving without a license by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.
A month later, he was arrested again in California for driving under the influence and hit-and-run with property damage.
In 2018, Hernandez-Santos was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
In 2020, he was arrested in Los Angeles for driving under the influence.
“This dangerous illegal alien has a criminal history including multiple DUIs, possessing a controlled substance, and two prior removals from the U.S. He was a walking public safety threat and illegally was driving a massive 18-wheeler when he caused a six-car pile-up involving a school bus on the highway in Washington,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“This story could have had a very different tragic ending. The sanctuary politicians in Washington failed once again to protect American citizens by refusing to honor our ICE arrest detainer.”
Hernandez-Santos’ whereabouts are unclear at this time.
Foreign truck drivers are wreaking havoc on U.S. highways and illegal alien drivers continue to destroy American lives on a near-daily basis.
