A tractor-trailer operator who drove against traffic across a major bridge on Interstate 55 was removed from the vehicle at gunpoint by law enforcement on Tuesday, according to reports.
The harrowing incident unfolded on Tuesday morning on the Memphis & Arkansas Bridge.
A big rig bearing the company logo “RAJ TRANSPORT” began crossing the bridge in the wrong direction before stopping directly in front of another semi, witnesses say.
Local resident Raleigh May Cupples was traveling in a vehicle impeded by the wrong-way driver and captured footage of officers storming the cab after the suspect reportedly refused to exit.

“They handled it very well,” Cupples told local media. “I feel like the officers did what they had to do to get him out of the truck. I don’t think they used excessive force. The man refused to get out, for whatever reason.”
The driver appeared to continue to resist arrest but was ultimately hauled out and traffic began flowing again a short time later.

Very little information has been released by local authorities and it is unclear if any arrests were made.
The near-disaster comes amid a wave of mayhem caused by foreign truck drivers on U.S. roadways, including a disaster that led to three deaths on a highway in Florida this month.
