The migrants rescued after several had fallen overboard from a speedboat on Wednesday, after it engaged in dangerous maneuvers to avoid a check by a coast guard patrol, were transferred safely to the port of Kos.
According to the Coast Guard, a total of 10 persons were picked up from the water, among them two women and two children who were pronounced dead on arrival at the Kos General Hospital. Among those rescued were another five children and a baby, who were examined and found to be in good health.
A total of 26 migrants (14 men, four women and 8 children) were rescued and transferred to the Kos reception and identification center, while according to statements taken from the survivors, there are no missing persons.
