Liberals in California are freaking out following reports federal agents wore unnerving Halloween masks during immigration raids this week.
“At 7:23 a.m. on Tuesday, an individual wearing a ‘Chucky’ mask was seen in the backseat of an unmarked vehicle leaving Terminal Island, a facility where ICE has regularly been documented staging from,” reported L.A. Taco on Thursday, citing a tip from left-wing anti-ICE activist group Harbor Area Peace Patrols.
Another member of the activist group also spotted an agent wearing a creepy “Momo” mask.
A triggered member of the activist group told L.A. Taco, “They have fun while doing it, which is deeply disturbing. We expect some level of decorum from government officials.”
DHS assistant secretary for public affairs Tricia McLaughlin responded to L.A. Taco’s inquiry about the mask, writing, “Happy Halloween!”
McLaughlin likewise didn’t offer much of a response to NBC News, which reported:
McLaughlin declined to say whether the masks were being worn by ICE officers or Border Patrol agents. She also did not comment on whether the use of such masks would increase assaults on ICE officers if those being arrested attempt to fight back against costumed agents unaware that they’re law enforcement.
Deportation opponents were already upset over ICE’s facial coverings, with Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom (Calif.) last month signing a law banning federal agents from hiding their faces, but officers’ festive spooky Halloween masks seem to have sparked a new wave of fear.
