Authorities are already blaming ‘mental illness’ after an Afghan migrant with a lengthy rap sheet launched a brutal stabbing rampage that left a toddler and male victim dead and others wounded in Germany today, according to reports.
The horrifying incident unfolded on Wednesday at around 11:45 a.m. local time in Aschaffenburg, a town in northwest Bavaria.
A group of children from a local daycare were playing at Schöntal Park when a suspect wielding a kitchen knife ambushed them.
A 41-year-old Good Samaritan who intervened was stabbed to death, along with a 2-year-old Moroccan boy.
A 2-year-old Syrian girl miraculously survived multiple knife wounds to the neck and at least two more adults were hospitalized with injuries.
“The arrested person is a 28-year-old Afghan national,” Police Unterfranken confirmed in a statement on social media.
In a prior post, police warned users against making comments with “offensive content,” vowing to “pursue posts with criminal content.”

The Afghan was identified as Enamullah O., an ‘asylum seeker’ who reportedly arrived to Germany via Bulgaria in 2022.

Amid an unsuccessful bid for asylum in Germany, Enamullah O. notified authorities in December of 2024 that he would self-deport, Nius reports.
“I voluntarily leave,” he wrote in a letter to the immigration office last month.
During a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann disclosed that Enamullah O. has been arrested at least three times for ‘acts of violence,’ but was only ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment and released each time.
Herrmann indicated German authorities will likely take the same approach, quickly dismissing concerns about possible Islamist motives.
“At the moment, the conjecture is moving towards mental illnesses,” the interior minister stated.
An investigation is ongoing.
