A Honduran suspect who authorities believe is in the U.S. illegally has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run collision that left a female pedestrian dead in Florida this week, according to reports.

The deadly incident unfolded just before 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning in Osceola County, Fox 35 reports.

Investigators say the 40-year-old victim was jogging in a neighborhood in Kissimmee when she was run over by the driver of a Ford F-250 pickup truck who then fled the scene.

The woman was rushed to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol eventually located the vehicle and arrested the driver.

He was identified as Jairo Pena Espana, a 21-year-old citizen of Honduras.

Pena Espana was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving without a license involving death.

Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against the Honduran.

“Authorities revealed that Pena Espana was unable to obtain a driver’s license and is believed to be in the country illegally,” WESH reports.
