The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced two of four criminal illegal aliens who escaped a New Jersey detention facility have been re-captured, including one who was turned away while attempting to surrender to law enforcement in the sanctuary state.
On June 12, four “dangerous criminal illegal aliens” broke out of the Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark.
Reports indicate a large group of detainees deliberately damaged the wall of a dormitory, enabling the men to abscond.
An ensuing manhunt has led to the apprehensions of two of the escapees, while two more remain on the loose at the time of this writing.
Incredibly, one of the fugitives tried to turn himself in at a state police station but was rejected and remained at large for two more days.
“On June 13, 2025, Joan Sebastian Castaneda-Lozada, a criminal illegal alien from Colombia whose criminal record includes arrests for burglary, theft, and conspiracy to commit burglary, attempted to turn himself in to local authorities at the New Jersey State Police Bridgeton Station,” DHS explained in a press release.
“Due to their sanctuary policies, the State Police refused to take him into custody because they do not work with ICE. On June 15, Castaneda-Lozada surrendered himself to Agents from FBI and ICE in Milleville, NJ.”

The other fugitive captured thus far was identified as Joel Enrique Sandoval-Lopez, an illegal alien from Honduras whose criminal record includes charges for unlawful possession of a handgun and aggravated assault.
Sandoval-Lopez violently resisted and threatened to kill law enforcement officers while being taken into custody on Friday in Passaic, DHS says.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of either Franklin Norberto Bautista-Reyes or Andres Pineda-Mogollon, both of whom remain at large and pose a threat to public safety.
