A dangerous illegal alien from Africa who was deported after serving time for armed bank robbery was caught breaking into a barn in New York after sneaking across the border from Canada, authorities say.
On Thursday, Customs and Border Protection released information about the incident, which unfolded on April 7 in Fort Covington, a town in Franklin County on the northern border.
A concerned citizen alerted U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) Swanton Sector about a male suspect forcing entry into a farm building at around 1 a.m. that night.
A responding USBP agent encountered the man and took him into custody.
He was identified as Hassan Mohamed, a 43-year-old citizen of Somalia with a serious criminal history, as well as an outstanding warrant from the U.S. Marshals for a probation violation.
“In 2007, he was convicted of armed bank robbery and use of a firearm during a crime of violence and was sentenced to 93 months in federal prison,” CBP explained in a press release.
Mohamed has also been charged in the past with vehicle tampering, disorderly conduct, and battery, according to USBP Michael W. Banks.
In 2017, a federal immigration judge order Mohamed deported.

Mohamed is now facing a charge of illegal reentry after removal following a conviction for committing an aggravated felony.
“We can’t emphasize enough the importance of citizens reporting suspicious activity, and this arrest is a great example of that,” said Burke Station Patrol Agent in Charge Dustin Judd.
“It takes all of us to help make our communities safer and secure our nation’s borders. If you see something, say something—report suspicious border activity as soon as it is safe to do so.”
