An illegal alien rideshare driver is facing serious charges for sexually assaulting a female passenger in Texas, according to federal authorities.
On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that an immigration detainer has been lodged against Sameh Mohamad Chami, an illegal alien from Lebanon who entered the U.S. during the Biden era.
Chami, 49, was arrested on Aug. 6 by the Friendswood Police Department (FPD) in connection with a sexual assault that occurred on June 28 in Galveston County.
A 21-year-old woman hired an Uber vehicle that night, bound from a bar in Galveston to her home in Friendswood, roughly 35 miles away.
The victim’s family tracked her journey, which indicated her Uber ride had concluded, but she had not arrived home, Fox 26 reports.
Her family used another app to pinpoint her location and found her in the front seat of a vehicle driven by Chami, which was parked in an empty lot.
Chami reportedly told the victim’s family members “she fell asleep” during the ride before they took her home.
Friendswood police “viewed security footage from the parking lot showing Chami get into the backseat of the Uber with the victim and [engaged] with her for over a minute before both returned to the front seats,” according to Fox 26.
“Records say the victim informed police she was intoxicated, falling asleep and didn’t remember much, but remembers Chami putting his hands down her pants.”
FPD says Chami “intentionally ended the ride before dropping the female off at the residence in Friendswood.”

DHS has confirmed Chami entered the U.S. in December 2021 on a B-2 tourist visa, which permitted him to stay in the U.S. for up to six months.
Chami secured an extension to remain in the U.S. until December 2022, but overstayed and has lived in the U.S. illegally ever since.
“ICE lodged an arrest detainer against Sameh Mohamad Chami—a criminal illegal alien let into our country by Joe Biden. This depraved criminal was charged with aggravated kidnapping after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 21-year-old girl who was a passenger in his Uber car,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“President Trump and Secretary Noem unleashed our brave law enforcement to take down these sickos and to protect women from sexual predators.”
Chami has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and an investigation is ongoing.
