Up to 80 Injured or Dead as Driver Plows Into German Christmas Market

Initial reports indicate a suspect may have intentionally steered a BMW sedan toward a crowd at the Magdeburg Weihnachtsmarkt in the city center, running over many victims in the process.

Witnesses described “war-like conditions” on the ground as medical teams, law enforcement, and Good Samaritans tended to dozens of wounded people, at least one of whom was reportedly killed.

“According to the responsible rescue control center, there are 60 to 80 injuries, including several serious injuries. An MDR reporter also reported a dead man. Government spokesman Matthias Schuppe told the MDR that a suspected perpetrator had been arrested,” MDR reports.

Videos purportedly shot in the aftermath have been circulating on social media.
