A gang of illegal aliens from Venezuela were arrested after stealing thousands of dollars of merchandise from a shop and then forcing a dangerous pursuit in the Chicago area this week, authorities say.
The incident unfolded on Monday in the village of Oak Brook, just hours after Donald Trump was sworn back into office.
The Oak Brook Police Department (OBPD) was alerted about “suspicious activity” involving four men in a Ford Fusion sedan parked near a shopping mall and officers began surveilling the vehicle, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office (DCSAO) explained in a press release.
Officers observed the men enter Sunglass Hut and called the store to notify employees.
The suspects reportedly grabbed 13 pairs of designer sunglasses worth nearly $5,000 and ran out of the store, knocking a female worker to the ground during a brief confrontation.
The men piled into the Ford and fled the scene with OBPD in hot pursuit.
The driver hit speeds topping 90 miles per hour on a surface street before entering the I-290 expressway, according to DCSAO.
OBPD officers successfully deployed spike strips and the vehicle was eventually neutralized after exiting the highway.
Four suspects were arrested and hit with a slew of felony charges, including burglary, robbery, and retail theft.
Two of the men were each charged with one count of felony aggravated fleeing and eluding.
They were identified as Jaidera Rincon-Jaramillo, 24; Jonamer Barrios-Moreno, 28; Gregory Mendoza-Rivas, 25; David Vivas-Esis, 21.

“These illegal migrant offenders came to the mall with the intention to work together and steal but found out that Oak Brook police and security work together to bring them to justice,” Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis stated.
The Venezuelans are being held until their next court date, which is scheduled for Feb. 18, 2025.
