An illegal alien with active warrants for murder and sexual assault in his home country of Ecuador was arrested in Minneapolis as federal authorities surge into Minnesota.
On Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shared footage of the capture of Tomas Espin Tapia.
Heavily-armed federal agents traveling in armored vehicles stormed a dingy apartment building in the Minnesota capital where they took Tapia into custody.
Tapia has prior convictions for robbery and assault in Ecuador, according to DHS Sec. Kristi Noem, who just arrived to the Twin Cities.
“You will be held accountable for your crimes,” Noem told Tapia during a face-to-face confrontation.

The Trump administration is reportedly deploying roughly 2,000 DHS agents and officers to Minnesota to arrest illegal aliens and investigate rampant fraud involving foreigners and elected officials.
“The plan is for the agents and officers to oversee a 30-day surge in operations in the Twin Cities area, making the region the first major target of the Trump administration’s expanded immigration crackdown in the new year,” CBS News reported this week.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has added 12,000 new officers and agents in under 12 months as the Trump administration ramps up interior enforcement in 2026.
