A suspected human smuggler was arrested following a high-speed chase that ended when he bailed out of the utility truck he was driving while more than a dozen illegal aliens remained inside, authorities say.
The dangerous pursuit unfolded on Monday in La Salle County in South Texas.
Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) troopers pulled over a suspicious work truck on Interstate 35, but moments later, the driver sped off.

The suspect continued to evade, at one point crossing a grassy median from an access road back onto the busy highway.
He then executed a similar maneuver, veering back to the access road.
Eventually, the suspect piloted the truck into the median again, but this time he jumped out while it was still moving.
The vehicle crashed into a fence as the suspect fled on foot.
Troopers discovered 14 illegal aliens crammed into various compartments throughout the truck.
They were all identified as citizens of Mexico and turned over to U.S. Border Patrol (USBP).
USBP agents helped track the suspect down a short time later.
Alberto Hernandez, a resident of San Antonio, was taken into custody and charged with evading arrest and 14 counts of smuggling persons.
