An illegal alien is facing a felony charge for spitting on a federal officer during his arrest in Los Angeles this week.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) just announced charges against 41-year-old Omar Pulido Bastida, a previously deported illegal alien of unspecified nationality.
On Tuesday, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officer arrived at a residence in the South Central neighborhood to serve a warrant for Pulido, who was charged earlier this year for felony re-entry.
After the officer knocked on the door of the home, Pulido emerged from a second floor window and hurled insults at the officer, according to an arrest affidavit.
When the suspect opened the front door, the officer announced he was there to serve the warrant.
“No, get out of here. I know my rights. I’m calling my lawyer,” Pulido said.
Pulido then spat in the face of the officer, who was leaning against a grated security gate separating them, before retreating into the residence, according to the affidavit.
ICE officers proceeded to force entry into the home and found Pulido hiding in a storage room inside.
“Okay, you got me,” the suspect stated before he was taken into custody.
Pulido has been charged with one count of assault of a federal employee, which carries a sentence of up to eight years in federal prison.
“This defendant found out the hard way: When you spit, we hit – with a felony charge,” said United States Attorney Bill Essayli.
“Law enforcement officers risk their lives and safety to uphold the law. To treat them with the disrespect, like this defendant did, mocks our great nation and such behavior will be punished accordingly.”

A federal magistrate judge ordered Pulido detained and scheduled his arraignment for July 16 in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
