A foreign gangbanger who is wanted in Mexico for homicide has been deported after illegally entering the U.S. at least 10 times.
On Friday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the latest removal of 45-year-old Humberto Romero Avila.
Romero Avila is a Paisas gang member with a long criminal history in the U.S. spanning nearly 25 years.
He was caught illegally crossing the southern border five times between 2002 and 2005 and promptly returned to Mexico each time.
Romero Avila snuck back into the U.S. again at an unknown location and time and remained in the country until an arrest for DWI in 2012 in Nacogdoches, TX.
He was removed from the U.S. later that year.
Romero Avila returned to the country as an unknown gotaway before being arrested for larceny and his third DWI in 2013 in Shelby County, TX.
He was removed by ICE in early 2014.
Romero Avila quickly returned for an eighth time and was caught and removed by U.S. Border Patrol in February of 2014 before reentering again in March of that year.
He was convicted of illegal reentry, served a brief prison sentence, and was deported again in August of 2014.
“Romero illegally entered the U.S. for a 10th time on an unknown date and at an unknown location and wasn’t encountered again until March 22, 2024, following his arrest for felony DWI (fourth offense) in Shelby County,” ICE explained in a press release.
“While conducting routine background checks, ICE was notified by the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, that Romero was wanted for homicide in Mexico.”
He was convicted yet again of illegal reentry, sentenced to time served, and eventually transferred to ICE custody on Jan. 31 before being deported again on Feb. 13.
Romero Avila is suspected of murdering 22-year-old Geovany Uriel Prado Morales in 2007 in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico.

“For nearly a quarter of a century, this transnational gang member has blatantly disregarded our nation’s immigration and criminal laws, putting the life of every person he’s encountered in danger,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston Field Office Director Bret Bradford.
“On top of that, he’s accused of brutally gunning down an innocent 22-year-old man in Mexico in 2007. In the more than 30 years that I’ve worked in immigration enforcement, I’m not sure I’ve ever come across a more egregious offender or a better example of why immigration enforcement is so critical to maintaining public safety.”
Authorities continue to catch dangerous foreign criminals in the U.S.
