Tommy Robinson’s appeal crashed and burned today as the Court of Appeal in London upheld his 18-month sentence for contempt tied to a Syrian migrant’s libel win.
The decision, slammed by supporters as a win for open-borders elites, keeps the outspoken mass migration critic in solitary confinement at HMP Woodhill, spotlighting the cost of challenging Britain’s immigration policies.
On April 11, Robinson (legal name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) fought to overturn his October 2024 sentence for breaching a 2021 injunction. That order stemmed from a £100,000 libel judgment won by Jamal Hijazi, a Syrian refugee Robinson accused of violence. His 10 violations, including screening “Silenced” at a Trafalgar Square rally, led to a 14-month punitive sentence plus 4 months to coerce compliance.

The Court of Appeal, led by the Lady Chief Justice, rejected claims that segregation—due to inmate threats—or a new ADHD diagnosis justified a lighter term. The judges ruled prison conditions were as expected and mental health evidence didn’t shift the needle.
Posts on X from Robinson’s camp called the ruling a “disgrace,” alleging it punishes him for exposing migrant issues. Last Friday, supporters rallied outside, their signs linking Robinson’s fate to unchecked immigration.

Critics, meanwhile, say he got what he deserved for flouting the law. With release possible in May 2025 if he removes “Silenced” from social media, or July otherwise, Robinson’s case remains a flashpoint in the immigration debate—proof to some of a system shielding migrants at the expense of native voices.
The court’s decision keeps Robinson caged, but the fight over border issues burns hotter.
