An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer is being hailed as a hero for rescuing a young child who was drowning in a community pool in Pasco County, Florida.

Details and footage of the harrowing May 16 incident just came to light this week.

Gregory Simmonds was off-duty while attending an end-of-season party for his son’s soccer team when he noticed a 6-year-old boy in distress in the water.

“I jumped in the pool, swam over as quick as I could. When I picked up the kid, his body condition at that time, I knew immediately that this kid’s [going to] need some sort of CPR,” Simmonds told Fox & Friends First.

Simmonds immediately administered life-saving medical care to the boy, who was not breathing at the time.

“I was absolutely relieved. I mean, I was at the right place at the right time. I’m just glad this kid gets a second chance at life. It was truly remarkable,” Simmonds stated.

“We’re just trying to protect communities. You know, protecting the national security threats that are presented to us and a lot of the public safety threats for our communities,” Simmonds said of himself and fellow ICE officers.

The child is expected to make a full recovery, local authorities say.
