A high-stakes pursuit nearly ended in tragedy when a Salvadoran illegal smuggling ‘migrants’ sped against traffic on Texas highways before bailing out with his passengers.
The harrowing bust unfolded in Val Verde County on Nov. 13, but the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) just released footage and details this week.

Troopers attempted to pull over a suspicious Honda Civic on US-277 when the driver sped away and tried to escape.
During an ensuing chase, the suspect wove in and out of traffic on busy highways and surface streets.
On multiple occasions, the driver swerved into oncoming traffic, forcing other motorists to take defensive action.
At one point, the Civic can be seen flying towards a tractor-trailer as the other driver lays on the horn.
Eventually, the Civic barreled off the road and the driver and four passengers fled into the brush on foot.
TxDPS troopers caught all five occupants, including the suspected smuggler, who was identified as Jose Rigoberto Perez Calderon, a citizen of El Salvador who is illegally present in the U.S.
Perez Calderon was charged with evading arrest and smuggling of persons.
The other illegals, citizens of Mexico and Honduras, were arrested and charged with evading arrest.
